Cricut Created Monogrammed Flair Pens

I have a group called Cricut for Teachers on FB.  As the new school year approaches and we know so little to actually prepare for teaching, we've turned to organizing.   My favorite this summer has been something frivolous, so extra, and so cute! Adding monograms to your flair pens.

Last night I was getting fidgety so I decided to join the masses.   For those of you that have nervous energy or just find it adorable--because it is.   Here is how I did it.

I created my monogram at www.monogramframes.com and then I saved it to my computer and uploaded it to Cricut Design Space.  I chose to make my images .6 inches each.  Since they were so small I did something unconventional and just pulled the decals off and applied them without transfer tape.  This allowed me to use the outline and the letters cut in the middle.  Since the images are so small there is really no need to be frugal about your vinyl, but I couldn't decide between just my monogrammed letters or the outlined shape so I decided to try both.  *shrug*

If you give it a try be sure to tag me at @teacher.mom.life on Instagram!  I'll share my favorites to my stories.

Which Heat Press Should I get for my Cricut

6/19/2020

I have personally owned a Cricut Mini, Cricut EasyPress 1 and a Cricut EasyPress 2.  I have had no issues with Cricut brand and it has my highest recommendation.  If you believe you will only make an occasional shirt for personal use, an iron can get you by, but it will not last as long as other options.
Some prefer a heat press because it applies pressure for you.
I am content with my Mini Press for small projects and unflat surfaces and my 9 x 9 press. It works well for onsies and just takes two presses for bigger projects. If you're just getting started with making shirts and etc note that adhering vinyl to fabric requires HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl).

I recommend considering budget, storage space, and use when deciding size and type of heat press.

If you're ready to make the leap go for it! :)
Commissioned links, I get a small amount if you choose to shop with me and it costs you the same!

HTV

Apply Vinyl to fabric requires HTV.  HTV is not sticky on the back because you use your press to melt it to the fabric.   You also do not typically need transfer tape to use HTV.  You cut your image backwards and then remove the negative spaces.  The HTV is stuck to a carrier plastic that keeps it in place until you press it on your fabric. The first HTV I bought was  a multi-color pack. I am so glad I did, because it gave me many colors for details and layering. Then I ordered other colors in bulk as needed.

VINYL 101

It took me a long time to learn what kind of vinyl to use...and sometimes a touch of money.  So I decided to share this post to help you avoid learning the hard way!

I have attached examples of each...as an Amazon associate I do get a small amount for each purchase you make, but it cost you the same! :)

Transfer Tape

This is my favorite and my very best find.  Most transfer tape was far too sticky for me (and somewhat expensive).  This isn't 12 inches wide, but I can cut more than one piece if I need bigger and I've been able to reuse it for a few pieces.

Non-Permanent 631

This vinyl is perfect for classroom projects you want to be able to remove at the end of the school year such as desks, whiteboards, walls, and etc.

Permanent 651

This is the vinyl I use most often.  I have used it as a stencil and removed it from some projects--it is not as easy to remove as the other, but it can be done.  This is the vinyl you'll want for outdoor projects, signs, cars and etc.

Fabric - HEat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)

HTV requires a heat press of some type to make a tshirt, bag, or any other fabric project.  Personally, I have the Cricut Easy Press and I had zero issues. I used it for personal use and for our small business.

I bought this HTV multicolor pack a year or so ago and it has been perfect for having a variety of colors to add small details to projects. It has saved me from having to go out and purchase a whole roll for an accent color on multiple occastions.

Remember when using HTV you will want to mirror your project and put it on the mat shiny side down.

How to make a Bitmoji!

If the answer is no, that’s fine! It took me for-ev-errrr to find one that may look like me. In fact if I send a new iteration to my husband I might have to make sure my Bitmoji looks single...whatever that means. However, my son called it “mommy” so I think that’s good enough.

Here is a a fun tutorial I found on creating a Bitmoji! Also, it helps to ask friends to look and see how it matches up!
